Questions you might have
Do I need my own AI key?
Yes, on every plan. The AI runs on a key from OpenRouter, OpenAI, Anthropic or Gemini that you paste into Settings, so you pay your AI provider directly for what you use. We do not sell credits and we add no markup. Your plan price pays for the software, never for the words the AI writes.
What do I get when I sign up?
Fourteen days of everything, with no credit card. After that your account becomes the Writer (Free) plan and stays that way until you choose otherwise. Your books, notes and history are all still there.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. Cancel from Settings → Billing. You keep Author or Pro until the end of the period you already paid for, then the account moves to Writer (Free). Your work stays, and cancelling never locks you out.
Is anything deleted if I downgrade?
No. Nothing you have written is ever deleted because of a plan change. Tools that your new plan does not include stay visible in the app, with a lock and the plan that would unlock them, and anything you made with them can still be viewed and exported.
Can I move between plans?
Any time. Moving up is prorated and takes effect immediately. Moving down, or cancelling, keeps your paid features until the end of the billing period. Use Settings → Billing → Change plan.
I was already a paying customer. What happens to me?
If you had a paid account on October 1, 2026, or you are a Founder, you are grandfathered: everything is included, forever, at the top plan, and that survives cancelling. You do not have to do anything. Your Settings → Billing tab shows it.
Who handles the payment?
Payments, tax and receipts are handled by Freemius, our reseller and merchant of record. You manage your card, invoices and cancellation in their customer portal, which Settings → Billing opens for you.
